Anushka Sharma Challenges Tax Hike in Bombay High Court

Story By: Prashant

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has taken legal action against the Maharashtra State Tax Department

for increasing levies on payments she has received for endorsements and hosting award functions.

The case was presented before a division bench of Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Abhay Ahuja,

where the government requested more time to file a response. The court has given the state government

until February 6th to file their response and has scheduled the next hearing for this matter.

The actress claims that the assessing officer incorrectly held that she had acquired copyright through

endorsements and anchoring functions and had sold or transferred the same. Anushka's lawyer, Deepak Bapat,

highlighted in the plea that the copyright of videos is always retained by the producer who also owns such

videos and performer's rights which are not capable of being transferred or sold.
